Cases and checks both have a set of statuses which indicate their current state and a score which shows their outcome. This article details available statuses and scores for checks and cases. Each check type may only use some of the statuses and scores detailed below.

Case and check statuses
The status of a case or a check indicates the current state of a case or check. In this section we’ll detail the meanings of available statuses.
Case statuses
Case statuses are dependent on an applicant’s actions until they have submitted their information for an included check, at which point the status is set by the status and score of the checks in the case.
Case status | Description |
Case ordered | Order successfully completed but email invitation not yet sent to applicant. |
Invite undeliverable | Email invitation could not be delivered to the provided email for the applicant. |
Applicant invited | Order successfully completed, email invitation successfully delivered to applicant email, but applicant has not yet selected the link in the invitation email. |
Applicant opened | Applicant has selected the email invitation’s link but has not saved any information in the applicant portal. |
Applicant started | Applicant has saved at least 1 piece of information in the Applicant Portal without submitting it. |
Applicant declined | Email invitation successfully delivered to the applicant email and the applicant has declined to complete the case. |
Applicant expired | Email invitation successfully delivered to the applicant email, but the applicant did not submit their information within 14 days. |
Case in progress | Applicant submitted their information and the case has no checks listed as In dispute and at least 1 check listed as: Pending fulfillment, In progress, Pending quality review, or In quality review. |
Complete | All checks in the case are either Complete or Cancelled. However, if all checks in a case are Cancelled the case would instead be listed as Cancelled. |
Cancelled | The case has been cancelled by the client or applicant. |
In dispute | At least 1 check on the case has a status of In dispute. |
Check statuses
Check statuses are dependent on the fulfillment process of the check and are automatically set by the check’s progress.
Check status | Description |
Awaiting applicant submission | The order has been completed and the applicant has not submitted their online form. |
Pending fulfillment | The applicant submitted the information for their check but it has not yet been sent to the relevant data providers. |
In progress |
The check is being worked on by Certn, its partners, and relevant data providers. |
Cancelled |
The check has been cancelled by the client or declined by the applicant. |
Completed |
The check has been submitted by the applicant and fulfilled by Certn. |
In dispute |
The check has been completed and the result is being disputed by the applicant. |
Pending quality review |
The check may require manual review, pending the results of other checks in the case. |
In quality review |
The check is being manually reviewed. |

Case scores
Case scores are dependent on the scores of their included checks and are automatically updated when all included checks are complete.
Case score | Description |
Complete - Clear | All checks have been completed with no reportable findings. Check results must still be reviewed to ensure you understand the results and can make informed decisions for you and your business. |
Complete - Review | All checks have been completed with reportable findings for at least 1 check. All check results must still be reviewed to ensure you understand the results and can make informed decisions for you and your business. |
Check scores
Check scores are updated automatically based on the results of the check or other relevant checks in the case.
Check score | Description |
Verified | Applicant’s information was successfully verified in relevant databases. |
No match found | Applicant’s information returned no matching results in relevant databases. |
Discrepancy | At least 1 detail verified through an identity verification check in the same case does not match details provided by the applicant in another check. |
Results found | Applicant’s information returned at least 1 matching result in a relevant database. |
Unable to verify | Applicant’s information could not be verified in relevant databases. |
