An employment verification check confirms the dates of employment for each employer listed by the applicant and verifies the positions held, ensuring the accuracy of the applicant's provided work history.

Default employment verification check fields
The default employment verification check template collects the following information from the applicant:
- consent and authorization to run the check,
- full name (including previous names and aliases),
- date of birth,
- address details and when they started living there,
- address details of the property for which they are applying, as well as
- employment history.
You can create or edit employment verification check templates as needed.
Create or edit an employment verification templates
To edit the default employment verification template or create a new one, follow the steps below:
- From CertnCentric, select Settings from the navigation menu.
- Select Employment verification templates from the navigation menu.
- Select the New template button to create a new template, or the ellipses next to the existing employment verification template you want to edit.
- From there, you’ll be able to select:
- whether to base the employment verification on a set number of years or a number of employers, and
- the maximum and minimum number of years or employers which should be provided by the applicant to be verified.
Active and Deactivated employment verification templates
An employment verification template’s status can either be Active or Deactivated. An Active template can be included in a case as part of the regular flow for ordering a check. An Deactivated template will not appear as an option in the flow of ordering a check.
To activate or deactivate an employment verification template, follow the steps below:
- From CertnCentric, select Settings from the navigation menu.
- Select Employment verification templates from the navigation menu.
- Select the ellipses next to the template you want to activate or deactivate.
- Select Activate or Deactivate.
Turnaround time
Employment verification check completion times vary depending on when an applicant and their previous employers provide the required information to Certn.
Stages of this check
Employment verification checks ordered through CertnCentric go through the following stages:
1. Order
You place an order that includes a employment verification check.
2. Application
The applicant receives an email invitation to complete the case that includes a employment verification check.
3. Processing
Certn processes the check using the information supplied by the applicant.
4. Results
The check's results become available to you in CertnCentric and to the applicant in the applicant portal.
Applicant experience
When you order an employment verifications check the applicant receives an email inviting them to complete an application.
Through the application process, the applicant will supply with the information required by the template and Certn will verify relevant details with the employers listed by the applicant.
The applicant will need to provide the following employment history information as part of the employment history check, if they have any employment history:
- Company name,
- company website (optional),
- position held,
- whether they were employed through a staffing agency,
- start and end dates for their employment,
- reason for leaving an employer (optional),
- employer contact details.
The applicant can opt for Certn to not contact their current employer as part of the application process.
